Discover your life purpose

I am sure you have heard of the concept of “life purpose” more than once in your life. If you choose to read this article you have probably given time and thought to the pondering of your own. You may have asked yourself, ”Why am I here? What is the meaning of my life? Who am I?” These are but a few of the many questions that may have come to mind.

Why do we ask such questions? Why do we wonder about our purpose in life? It is because we naturally wish to experience freedom and joy, and to find a path to attaining them. So, when we start the process of seeking our Life Purpose, we should begin by asking: What will bring me joy? What can I do to have more freedom in my life? The answer to these two questions is the point from which we start to create this reality, if we choose to do so.

But what is “reality”, really? We often ask ourselves, is it all just a physical road, or are we on a spiritual course? Is it both? Many of us see our journey on Earth as a spiritual one; others see it as physical. The truth is that you cannot separate one from the other. We are here to experience a spiritual journey through the physical dimension.

You may wonder, how is this possible? Here is an example:

Let’s say you want to go on a bungee jump. It may seem like a purely physical activity, but to do it you need an enormous amount of courage. Without that courage you would not be able to make the jump and, therefore, would not be able to have the physical experience you desire. This bravery that you gather within yourself is spiritual essence. You build yourself to a powerful emotional point, or a highly potent state of mind. Thus, any experience that you wish to have on a physical level must be “enabled” by an accordant quality of spirit.

Wouldn’t you like to have a lot of money and be successful? What you really want is the feeling that comes as a result of having a lot of money – the sense of empowerment, the freedom to do anything you desire. So even when you think you want to achieve something purely material, what you are really looking for is the spiritual gain of that experience.

Close your eyes and think about what you want to have in your life. Many times we say to ourselves, “I wish I had it,” or, “I wish I could do it,” yet those wishes remain unfulfilled because we cannot find in ourselves the essential qualities to realize them.

In any experience we may wish to have, the spiritual cannot be separated from the physical. The physical aspect is the action we take to make the experience happen. The spiritual aspect is the emotional wherewithal to take that action.

So as our journey in life is of dual nature, entailing both the physical and the spiritual, we must explore our Life Purpose at both levels. We have to look at it from its “inner” (or spiritual) aspects and its “outer” (or physical) aspects.

When seeking to identify our Life Purpose, most of us look to the external world. We may find the answer in the events and examples of our surroundings. For instance: To bear children and raise a family of my own would bring great joy and meaning to my life, so I want to become a mother. This is my Life Purpose. Or – I like to take photographs. I love the camera and enjoy using it creatively. I will become a professional photographer and that will bring me the joy and freedom I desire. Or – I like to tell stories and am a very skilled writer. I will write novels and achieve joy, freedom and meaning in my life as a published author.

Whatever your inspirations and desires, they are unique to you. They are your OUTER-LIFE PURPOSE.

The journey to fulfilling our Outer-Life Purpose is sometimes more challenging then we thought. Even when our goals are achieved, we may find that we are not experiencing the joy, freedom and completeness we anticipated.

The reason for this has to do with our INNER-LIFE PURPOSE, or the spiritual path that each of us has chosen to experience in this lifetime. This path is a journey of emotional discovery in which our Soul develops the essential qualities necessary to achieve our desires, or Outer-Life Purpose, in the physical world.

Your Inner-Life Purpose is unique to you. When you connect with it and begin to follow its path, it will enable you to fulfill your Outer-Life Purpose and experience the joy, freedom and completeness you desire.

Our lives have various facets. We all have our health, our relationships, our personal interests, our creativity, our environment, our finances and our career. To fulfill your Life Purpose is to fulfill your potential in all these areas, not just one or two. You may feel that you have already found your Life Purpose in your profession. You may know which gifts you have to share with the world in that respect. But perhaps there are other areas of your life – fun, creativity, health, relationships, personal growth, – that are not being fulfilled and have you feeling out of balance.

Success or failure, harmony or disharmony in each of these areas is a direct reflection of how well connected you are to your Inner-Life Purpose.

In order to find, fulfill and maximize your potential in all aspects of your life, you first have to understand the Inner-Life Purpose – the path of emotional discovery – you have chosen for yourself. The more you understand the power of this awareness – power to master your challenges, manifest your dreams and achieve your highest self – the more inspired and excited you’ll become!

Many spiritual teachers and motivational coaches talk about having within you all the resources you need to create the life of your dreams “right now!” But what, exactly, are these resources?

Others say that your thoughts and feelings are the tools with which you craft your world – but why do you have your particular thoughts and feelings? How is it that one person is endowed with confidence and self-worth, while another suffers insecurity and low self-esteem? How is it that one person allows his emotions to control his life, while another is led by reason? Why is it that one person finds it easy to give and share of himself, while another is guarded and self-centered? Why are some people readily able to say no and establish boundaries in life, while others feel powerless to do so?

Some prominent teachers also say that you are a physical extension of source energy, and are the creator of your own reality. But what is the source energy you extend from? How does the process of creation come to manifest itself in your world?
